hardship bank charges

I wrote to the Bank asking for repayment of Bank charges. Having been made redundant in February I am finding things very difficult. I am now at the second letter stage, having already filled in the Nat West "hardship questionaire". They are now asking for documentary evidence for the total household income, and documentary evidence for some money I have borrowed from my Mother-in-law.
My questions are: Has anyone else encountered this whilst asking for Bank charges due to Financial hardship, or is it yet another delaying tactic?
Also, who has a contract written up when borrowing £400 from their Mother-in-law? How do I get around that one?
I would appreciate any advice, as every day that goes by, things get a little bit harder!

I've had a similar problem with my rent. I'm a lodger in a friends house and pay cash every 4 weeks for rent and council tax. I was asked for evidence of this, even though I was initally told that they could see £250 was withdrawn every payday and that this was sufficent proof. They have now changed their mind asked for 'documentary proof'. I queried this and was told to get my friend to write a letter detailing exactly what I paid, how often and what is was for.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Carlos, it does seem as though the Bank will try anything to stall the procedure. After all, I could get someone to write any amount, when as you say ,the evidence is in front of them in the Bank account. I will do as you suggest, and perhaps give some feed back which ever way it goes.

Sue they are complying with the FSA Waiver on bank charges is assessing you for financial hardship. I have heard the words "stalling tactic" for the last three odd years. It isn't but it is beareaucratically painful.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
