I can't give blood, this whole thread makes me feel queasy!!
But my Mum does, bless her.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Didnt see any ice cream when I gave blood this month - well we dont do it for the tea and biscuits. well I dont.
However I wish it took an hour! Usually it takes nearly two hours here in Oldham. Always oversubscribed and they want more blood donors. Who wouldnt be put off having to wait that long. Perhaps it is peculiar to where I live.
When I first gave blood years ago you were in and out in half an hour.
People who feel queezy about giving blood arent so afraid when having a needle stuck in them will save their lives. They will grin and bear it.Veteran Bargain Hunter -

Sorry, but I find that posting offensive. I am severely needle phobic, and when I recently needed a drip in hospital (rather serious) it still took 3 nurses and my DP an hour to calm me down enough to put it in, even though it was essential to my health.Somerled wrote:

I didn't post in this thread to be put down for my fear, rather to congratulate the people who are brave and able to give blood (as I wish that I could!)2 angels in heaven :A0 -

I got all sorts of naff, supposedly witty excuses when I tried to persuade people to come with me.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -

I have tried to give blood once. It was still in my native country. They couldn't fill the bag as was fainting after the bag was about 2/3 filled and they had to stop. And because the bag wasn't filled properly, they couldn't use it!!!!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
My OH goes all the time (you know when they send you the letter) - but I can't cos I'm diabetic
Shame cos I'd love to give blood. Everyone has a photographic memory, it's just some of them don't have film.0 -

Sorry Lisa if you found the post offensive, it wasnt my intention but only another plea for others to give it a go.
Having worked in an industry where you had to have a blood test every 6 months for your own health, I knew personnel who feinted at the thought of having a test. He was sometimes carried to the First aid room or tricked into getting him close to the room where it was taken.
I don't see many people object to receiving blood, apart from religious grounds.
Did you know that a recent poll of Blood Donors revealed that they would rather give blood free than seeing the NHS incur greater expense by having to buy in local stocks.Veteran Bargain Hunter -
