Venue cancelling our wedding - moved from wedding thread

Last week our venue told us that our wedding reception clashed with a big event for 1,500 people and they needed us to change the date of our wedding! Our wedding is this september so impossible to change the date. After 3 days and telling them they would have to pay lots of money for us to move our wedding to another venue they now say they can hold our wedding after all. However, they haven't changed anything about the major event and I can't believe they will be able to give us a good reception.

On Friday morning they said they could hold i after all, but on arriving home friday evevning I had a letter from them cancelling our booking and retruning the deposit cheque. What we would like to do is move our wedding venue (as they have treated us so badly last week) and then sue them for the difference in cost. However - they have said they can hold it - but I have a letter terminating the contract? Can I use the letter to accept the termination - or has the letter been superceded by tehir offer to now hold the wedding?

What are our options?

Probably if you try to use the letter head office will tell the courts your wedding was going ahead as planned. You've got your wedding, You'll probably spend lots in legas fees only to lose in court.

Thing is, they said they will hold it - but they themselves admitted that they can't hold it to a good standard. They plan on having loudspeakers, big screens and a tented village - which will spoil our view from the balcony. They will have limited and stressed staff, no parking etc Just a nightmare really.

Take the money and run. If you don't, surely you'd be worrying from now until September that they will cancel it all the day before the wedding?
  • how much extra stress do you want/ can you handle? staying at the venue could result in disruption of your wedding, if they don't cancel it closer to the date, and chasing the difference in costs from head office could result in a long, stressful and potentially fruitless road. i would just cash the cheque and walk away.

Problem is - unless I succesfully claim they terminated the contract, they could sue me for cancelling it so I'm not sure it is as simple as cashing the cheque and running. Also, the venues available that date are all a lot more expensive so it would cost us a lot of money to move the venue. Argh! Weddings are supposed to be happy times
