Do I sell as new or used

Morning
I have some clothes that I've finally decided to sell on ebay and was wondering if I should sell them as new or used. They've never been worn, are a few years old and are in perfect condition. Most of them don't have tags on.
Do I list the ones with tags as new, and the ones without tags as used but never been worn? Or is it best to just list them all as used? The only thing that's worrying me is if they're listed as used they'll be excluded if someone's only searching for new clothes.
Cheers.

I buy both new & used clothes on Ebay, I tend to steer clear of anything that is described as "New Without Tags" as I have been caught out on several occasions, when it is definitely not new & should have been described as used.
If I were in your shoes I would describe the ones with tags as New & then the others as used - but say in your listing that they have never been worn & are in perfect condition.
It will stop your clothes showing in the new categories, but you may find that people will find one of your new with tags clothes & then look at your other listings anyway.0 -
I tend to put BNWT or BNWOT (Brand New With Out Tags) in the title, as they technically are. (I'm always scrupulously honest about this too, and wouldn't use it even if only worn once - then I put, "Worn once!")
However, I mention again in the description that they're BNWOT or whatever, so in excellent condition, but then add that they're "Not current season." or words to that effect
That way I think you're covered!

cant really be new if had for a while, even if not worn? (unless still in the box/wrapper etc..)Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

"are a few years old"
There is your clue.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

That didn't even occur to me, thanks.
Okay I'll list them as used and let the photos speak for themselves.
I've just remembered I have two tagged and wrapped Karen Millen dresses, that are 5 months old is it okay to list those as new?
It's my first time as a seller on ebay and want to get it right.
Thanks all.0 -
there is an option to list as new with out tags so you should be fine.
would be worth mentioning how long you have had them though as I sold some converse (still boxed/never worn) as brand new even though I had them for about a year.
Just because an item isnt new off the shelves doesnt mean its not still in brand new conditionstevew8975 wrote: »"are a few years old"

It may well be in perfect condition, but it is still not new.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

so are you saying that only businesses should be able to list things as new, as these clothes are clearly second hand as somebody other than a business has owned them?
Or are you saying only the original manufacturer can describe clothes as new and nobody else, after all the shops that sell them aren't selling something that is new as it was clearly made months before?
I think you have highlighted to the OP why the item description is very important. My defintion of new might be different to yours who's might be different to the eventual buyer.
I personally would say list as new if Bought earlier this year / season and never worn, other wise list as used and say roughly when bought and how many times its been worn.
Buyers will be happier if the item is in better condition then they expect, Sellers are happier to get the best possible price. There is a balancing act to be done where both buyer and Seller feel the transaction is fair and listing something as new when it isn't will upset the buyer.0 -
Listing something as new, when they will be the second owner isn't exactly fair - especially if it has been hung on a rail for a few years.
"New" to me would be as recently left the factory, with tags, in original packaging.
Nothing to do with being a private or business seller, more the fact that it is A FEW YEARS OLD....<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I recently sold some tagged items that I found in the back of my wardrobe. These were in unopened packets and had swing tags but I estimate they must have been there for maybe 4-5 years.
I put nothing in the title about new or used, I just put 'with tag'. In the auction I described them as unworn with tags but stored so not 'mint' and suggested they might need freshening up or washing before first wear.
