Partner being made redundant.

My partner was called into the office at work last week and told that he will be redundant as of the 3rd July. 7weeks notice as he has been employed by them for 7 years and the reundency package all seem right. The problem is that this has come totally out of the blue. Didn't have a clue that redundancy was on the cards.

Another member of staff who had only been there 6 months has moved into the office doing a job my partner could easily do :confused:. There was no consultation. Is this right that they can do this?

Stressed.

    Nope - No process followed so it's almost certainly unfair.

    He had no consultation or chance to put his views on the redundancy forward. He was not able to apply for other jobs in the company. He was not able to meet with management with a companion or appeal. It sounds as though there is also grounds for dispute re job redistribution.

    I strongly recommend you speak to a lawyer they are going to be very interested. Given the length of service I reckon they ought to be able to squeeze a tidy sum out of his company as (if what you have posted is accurate) the company has screwed up quite badly.

    Absolutely agree with everything Pete111 has said. Get your partner to speak to a lawyer immediately - if everything you say is true then his firm have been very stupid indeed. If the lawyer confirms that he was unfairly dismissed then he should be entitled to a large compensatory award (it was up to £66,200 last time I checked). On no account should he just accept the redundancy.
