HSBC Credit card

I applied for a HSBC card on 09/01/06 but with all the hassle I had trying to get it and phone calls I had to make i complained about the service they were providing, anyway got a letter through the post yesterday saying there were going to credit my account with £30 as a goodwill jesture due to the poor service they provided, has anyone else received a letter like this?

Its interesting they are paying £30 without you asking for it. Good on you.

In my case, I got my wife to apply for the card at the beginning of January. We had to go through the various hoops such as taking passport etc to an HSBC branch. Anyway, wife got a letter yesterday saying they cannot yet decide unless they spoke to her. So, she has to phone an 0870 number between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Guess what, she is not allowed to make personal calls during office hours. We are going to make an arrangement. The reason for her applying for a card was simply to get my wife her first credit card (in her name). We did not want BTs etc. Also, we have been banking with First Direct (a subsidary of HSBC) for the last 15 or so years. It makes you think. I'm tempted to tell my wife to tell them to sod off. However, since it is her first application for a credit card, I guess that will not be such a good idea.

Anyway, we will sort it out.

I dont know if they're still doing the 0%/9 months deal but its worth persevering with if they are. It took them ages to sort out my application and i had to send in a payslip and utility bill for good measure (never been asked for this before) Its one of the best current deals-BT fee free and the BT goes in from the date of transfer and not from the date when the account was opened.

I never asked for any money back from them I just told them that I was going to complain about there service, so it came as a nice surprise yesterday when i got my letter. Dont phone the 0870 go to https://www.saynoto0870.com and get a free phone and ask to be put through to the right dept.

I have found the same thing with HSBC.. completely useless. In one day I was passed round god knows how many times and ended up in call centre in the philippines and then later on when I phoned again i was in a call centre in India. In both cases they were unable to help and gave me incorrect info. Im still waiting to sort this out and today I get a letter saying one of the terms for my card is incorrect and it quotes my card number even though I dont have the card. I telephone them to say I rteceived this letter but stll dont have the card as it may have been intercepted but am referred to a branch even though Im not a customer.

Ive dealt with a few financial companies in my time, but none have been as useless as HSBC with regard to this CC application.

Like many others my application was nothing but hassle so I also complained and received compensation (without asking for it) for my efforts.

Just prior to receiving a written apology including confirmation of the compensation I was contacted (by phone) by the complaints dept who offered me the chance to "Have a meal on us, just charge it to the card and it will automatically be refunded". When i enquired as to what value, I was told "a maximum of £100" which I was rather surprised about.
I have since had a meal costing £86.40 and have e-mailed the contact at HSBC and am waiting for the charge to be refunded.

I have just completed a BT with HSBC [yesterday] and it did take a good while. I too had to send a pay slip and utility bill, and phone them. I did recieve a letter towards the end of last month, saying they were getting a lot of applications at this time, and were sorry for the delay.
All done now though, and I spoke to a nice American lady on the phone yesterday to check everything had gone through, and it seemed fine.
