Hi can anyone recommend a hotel in Venice in May? I'm on a budget but would like to stay somewhere clean and friendly!
Many thanks

We stayed in a lovely hotel called the Bonvecchiati( I may not have spelt this correctly) just off St Mark's square. We booked it through expedia.com so I am sure you will be able to find it on there.
It was a really nice hotel decorated in venetian style, not too expensive. We stayed B&B and the breakfast was fantastic. We ate so much on the first day we couldn't manage any lunch.0 -
We stayed at a hotel called Liassidi Palace (hopefully that is spelt right!) In 2004. It was around 250 GBP for 3 nights which, for Venice seemed good value. Hotels in Venice are notoriously expensive and unless you stay in a hostel, you're going to have to pay (at least that is what we found).
The hotel staff were really friendly, the room was lovely (marble floor, comfy bed, great shower etc), the hotel itself was gorgeous and very well located, a couple of minutes from St Marks square. The breakfast was amazing - all you can eat for a huge selection. The breakfast room was downstairs and had a huge window so you could see the boats going past as you ate. Amazing.
We booked the hotel via Expedia. I would DEFINATELY stay here again. I stay in hotels very regularly and this is still my favourite! There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

Have a look on https://www.eurocheapo.com it gives honest reviews on the hotels and it's brilliant if you are on a budget.0

I think your best bet is doing a search on https://www.venere.com
I have used it recently... very good website, with honest reviews, brilliant maps and lots of other useful info.
You can get a 4% discount on there as well, with the code: BK5HX8W
And what's even better is that you don't have to pay in advance... pay direct to the hotel/apartment etc when on holiday.
Hope that helps.0 -
I agree there are good choices on Venere, and you can reserve one of their hotels then cancel quite late without charge.
Venice hotels aren't ever cheap, as it exists on year-round tourism.
If you don't mind staying across the bridge on the mainland in Mestre, or across the lagoon in Lido you can cut costs, but part of Venice's charm is wandering the squares and alleys in the evening.
I can recommend the Rivamare in Lido, a clean, friendly, budget choice, where I got a good rate. I liked Lido's contrast with the main island, and I loved getting the waterbus across the lagoon, though each journey eats up your hol. See here - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187870-d505109-r4121675-Hotel_Rivamare-Venice_Veneto.html
Trip Advisor has lots of info, reviews and a forum on Venice, though some of its community think nothing of paying €100 for a water taxi
Hope this helps.0 -

Also, try this site comparison search - http://www.hotelscomparison.com/
With the cheapest hotels, check their location and reviews on Trip Advisor, also check whether they are ensuite or shared bathroom. Best value isn't always the cheapest!
Hope you have a good break, Daisy - I loved Venice, and you CAN be a moneysaver there, so long as you do your research!

I've stayed at the Giardinetto on Lido - right opposite the waterbus stop:
