Hi,
A mate is depositing money in my account for me.He has my account number and sort code.
I've read online that this transaction is not instant and that the money will be available at midnight.
Can someone advise if this is true ? Also, since he has my account number/sort code can he get statements ?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the bank, if you have read it on their website then of course it is true. If you pay money in over the counter with Bank of Scotland it should clear instantly, and I think this is the case with most banks.
He cannot get statements with your sort code and account number.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

Depends on the bank ... some take longer to update than others. I know that if it's Halifax, it'll be in there instantly for you.Can someone advise if this is true ? Also, since he has my account number/sort code can he get statements ?
No ... banks can't give out any personal information about you to anyone other than you.0 -
Thank you.
Its the Alliance and Leicester, but it wasnt their website I read it.0 -
Do you know, some bells are ringin with me about this. My brother had an A&L account a while back and left after a few weeks because of strange things and can't remember if that was one of them.0

Possible, if he knew enough personal information then yes if he blagged it enough.
The 'I left my card at home' reason could work. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

If it's the A&L then there's a possibility you have got the sort code/account number wrong, depending on whether you/your friend were savvy enough to know how to make the necessary adjustments or not.
If you got it wrong it will probably arrive eventually. Depends how the payment was made. At a branch - they will have put it right at the time. Online - not so sure.0 -
With A&L if you deposit cash you can draw on it immediately no matter who deposits it. My mum and best mate deposit cash in branch into my account regularly and its always there immediately - for example a few weeks ago, OH paid for some concert tickets for me and my mate, mate paid in cash at 12.15 into my account, and by 12.17 money was in via FP into OH's account. So it should go through straight away.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
