need help with Halifax charge!

Hello, I need some help and advice please!

Had a lovely letter from Halifax today, I am being charged £28 plus £35 for being over my overdraft limit by less than £5, for a matter of hours.

Called them up and spoke to a sympathetic member of staff, who said she could see I had already paid money into the account to get me back within my limit and that it was a small amount I had gone over by. I explained that it happened because my fella had used the wrong Halifax card to pay paypal for an ebay purchase. She popped me on hold but came back to say that because i had already had a charge reversed in JANUARY 08 she couldnt help me with this one.

This played on my mind all day today and I decided to call back to ascertain whether I would ever be allowed to have a charge reversed with this bank. This time i spoke to a guy who sounded like he would rather not have to deal with me. He confirmed that I would never have another bank charge reversal allowed, and said in Feb this year a rule had come in to say there was only 1 reversal allowed for any Halifax customer. I asked about exceptional circumstances, such as going overdrawn by 30p and he said that only a death or something like that would be classed as an exceptional circumstance!

I pressed on about how my last charge was nearly a year and a half ago and was told not to continue to put too much thought into timeframes!

I am appalled and am thinking strongly about leaving the bank. The guy said that no one on the line had the authority to reverse my charge (i asked to speak to someone more senior). Halifax bombard me with emails (i am paperless billing) about getting into more debt with them-they have a loan for me for whatever I want... a credit card with a 5k limit just for me...yet i go into £4.50 debt and its a crime that costs me over fifty quid!

Can anyone help me because I cannot afford to pay this and no one there will help me!

Becky

this is how my daughter has ended up paying them £300. leave them now!
if we all vote with our feet, perhaps it will start to get through to them eventually, if enough of us do it. we are moving our current account from them, have already transferred ISAs.

Ditto. Mine ended up them charging me a total of £256 for going over £6. We have since started a long running battle with Halifax for many things. I really can't stress how much I hate that institution, and what I'd do if given the chance! Run while you can.
