Nissan Micra Battery Problem

I am experiencing a problem with my 2003 Nissan Micra. When the vehicle is not used for a week the battery is fully drained. It is worth noting the battery has been replaced with a brand new one within the last month.

After having systematically checked each of the individual electrical components in the vehicle I have come to the conclusion that it is the immobiliser than is draining power from the battery when the engine is off.

Ammeter reading was around 200 milliamps for the immobiliser. I am curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this problem with Micras and whether anyone knows any neat fixes which don't involve spending lots of money at the Nissan Dealer!

This will be quite annoying for me as with my new job I won't be using the car so regularly. I would really appreciate any advice.

Many thanks,
Sam

  • Hi, I'm no expert but I experienced a similar problem in my 2000 micra. Turned out it was the radio that was draining 10 times as much power as it should have been. Got an auto-electrician to check it out and it's been fine since. If you know you're not going to be using the car for a length of time, you could disconnect the battery.

if youve checked everything like glovebox lights, boot lights, dash clocks and stereos and your sure its the imobiliser you could fit one of these? to the main positive from the battery, cheap and cheerful.
