Usually, when you pay a deposit from a credit card like this, you automatically allow consent for them to take the balance by the same method when it becomes due, it's usually in the terms and conditions

I have to disagree with you there. Yes, you can pay your deposit by credit card, but no Company. as far as I know, take the balance payment automatically. You have the choice about how you pay the balance, be it credit card, (and it doesn't have to be the same one as you used for the deposit), debit card, or cheque.

The company I have used this year and last take the balance payment from your card if you used said card for your deposit, unless you make alternative arrangements. This is clearly laid out in the terms and conditions.

I know it's no help now, but you always should go through all terms and conditions of booking with a fine tooth comb as you put it. However, as has been stated above, the company concerned does accept cancellations via telephone to their call centre so it might be worth taking that legal advice to see if there is a glimmer of hope.

I cancelled a hotel yesterday and received the following:

    Confirmation Number: 426MS15826

The companies that do that must be in the minority. I have been booking holidays and cruises for years and I have never come across this before.

I've had a message from otbeach to say the hotel we booked and fully paid for in no longer available. The alternative they have offered is nothing like what we had booked being a 'relaxings spar hotel' in a different resort instead of a family fun water park hotel. They have agreed to a refund for the cost of the accomodation but are unwilling to payback the cost of the credit card payment charges they made because I paid by a card. So Im out of pocket by about £160. Any advice ?

£160 for credit card payment charges???? Are you serious????? I'm obviously out of touch as I thought these charges were around 2% of the total bill - what did you do - book out the whole hotel?
