what ar the limits like? what sort of checks do they do?
any feedback appreciated.
I applied and got an Amex Platinum in November 2008. Quite surprising really as I have 2 defaults  Mind you, they checked my good file (Equifax I think) that doesn't show the defaults. Have a £3100 limit which isn't bad. I cant remember if I got an instant decision online tho - but it def was hassle free. And a very pretty card lol0 -

Nice one Sammy..... they do seem to play a funny game by refusing some great risks and allowing higher risks, and vice versa.... Amex (along with MBNA) are pretty unpredictable to be honest and if you're lucky enough to be accepted then great news.
Amex generally search Experian - as their main search - I have their search against me on Experian but nothing on Equifax.....
Seems they do give half decent limits as well......2010 - year of the troll

You're getting there - I can see from your signature
I have 2 defaults - one from Egg CC and one from Egg Loan. They're not small amounts either lol. About £4k each. They're both settled now but I still have the defaults on my file. One marked Dec 2004 and the other Mar 2007. So I thought my chances of getting credit were zilch. It wasn't till I started following the Sub-Prime thread this time last year that I bit the bullett. I now have:
Cap One - £1600 limit
Vanquis - £1250 limit
Amex Plat - £3100 limit
MBNA - £3100 limit
Flybe - £1000 limit
Next Catalogue - £800 limit
Littlewoods Catalogue - £800 limit
4 of the above have had limit increases in the past 12 months - so I must be doing something right. No more applying for CCs for me - I think the above is enough! My aim is to be able to get a prime mortgage. Mine is sub prime at the mo (but I'm not complaining as my fixed rate ended a couplke of months ago and I'm now on a 2.99% apr)
Anyway, the moral of the story is: "perseverance is the last key on the keyholder to the door of success"0 -
I think i need to reduce the balance on my cap1 and HSBC as think the balances are having a negative effect on my CF. My limit for HSBC is £500 and the balance in £450 and the balance of my Cap1 is £330 and the limit is £350, I know cap1 wont do anymore increases due to this and you have to apply for an increase with HSBCOfficial SOS Club number 014 - Dry until 29.11.090
