I have a sharp laptop, and recently it has started taking for ever to start up.
When the on button is pressed I get a screen with the Sharp logo on and the option to press F2 to enter the setup/bios screens.
it then takes about 2 minutes to pass this screen and get to the loading sequence, then another 1-2 minutes before it loads windows XP.
It has a 1.1Ghz AMD CPU, 512Mhz Ram, and a 20GB Hdd with only windows and firefox installed (I just use it for the internet).
I want to give the laptop to my daughter for her schoolwork, and buy myself another, but wanted to get this fixed first.
Any ideas.

[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Have you recently installed any programs?
What anti-virus software do you have? What about firewall software? Anti-spyware?
I'd suggest uninstalling all software which isn't required. Then download and run CCleaner. Scan for any viruses using Avira AntiVir although note you should only install one anti-virus at a time so if you've got one currently installed this would need to be uninstalled first.
Finally reboot then do a defrag.
If this doesn't resolve it then look have a read of http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/0 -
