Trouble with videos on laptop

I have recorded a video (on my dig camera) and uploaded it onto this laptop which has Vista. I can look at pics easily but the laptop didn't seem to recognise the video. I downloaded Quicktime (I think?) and now I can see the video but there is no sound!
I uploaded the video onto Facebook and that worked but still no sound.
Can anyone offer any help, please?
