Buying council land

Hi,
I am interested in buying a small piece of council land behind our house (owned) to extend our garden.
Does anyone know how much we should be paying? (we're in Aberdeenshire). Also, how difficult a process is it?
Thanks.

you should be paying £75.830

Hi.
Thanks. Is that figure per sq m?0 -
In about 96/7 I paid £500 plus the council and my own legal fees to buy a plot of land attached to my garden.

Oh right! Could be an expensive purchase then! I've contacted the council so i'll wait and see what they come back with. Just would be interested to see what kind of figure other people have paid so we have an idea of how much negotiation there is on the price.
Thanks.0 -
I was quoted approx £200 to buy some land at the side of us (not Council owned but classed as public open space & therefore I need permission from the Council to fence it off etc ).
As mentioned by Poppy, you then have legal fees to pay for & you may also need to pay for a notice in the local paper to advise neighbours of your plans to give them chance to object etc.
In total I was given a guesstimate of approx £1000 & advised it could take up to 6 months for it all to go through.
I should say that we are in England though & it may not be the same procedures in Scotland.0 -
Sarah ..
Does the council know you want to buy?
Does the council want to sell?
Cheers!

Lodger,
They know we want to buy, and they seemed to be keen enough to sell. There's a 'procedure' they have to follow though so i have a feeling it may be a long and fairly expensive process.

Do you know any councillors or council officials?? It is easy enough to find out who your local councillor is and go talk to him and see what he can do to "encourage" them...
cheers!
