Major Travel - Reputable Firm???

Hello,

Last night I booked a return flight to Mauritius via Travelsupermarket.com. I booked through a company called Major Travel. The money paid, £551 seems to have gone through my bank account, but I am worried. I have had no confirmation email from Major Travel and I wrote to them this morning to ask them to send me confirmation of my flight booking. Thankfully I did write my booking reference number down. I have had no response as yet.

Does anyone have experience of booking with this company? This is the first flight I have booked outside of Easyjet and I can't help but be a bit concerned. I paid by visa debit card. Any advice would be most welcome.

I would not use Major Travel for the reason that their prices are far from transparent. However, that is not to say that they are not ok if you are happy with the price.

Is your confirmation number a number specific to them, or is it the airline confirmation/ e-ticket number? If either of the latter, you could check your booking on the airline website.

I am not sure if the confirmation number is specific to them - it is in the form MWEB-*****. Does that look like a possible airline confirmation number. I hope so - as I can then try the Air France website.

Its possible that the confirmation emails are physically sent by a travel consultant once the booking has been double checked. If you only booked it last night its possible there is noone in the office today.

Leave it until tomorrow and give them a ring if you are concerned.

Yes I must admit I did think about the lack of staff in over the Bank Holiday weekend - I guess I must wait until tomorrow. I tried the Air France website wirth my confirmation number, however no luck there as it must be a Major Travel reference number only.

That is definitely not an AF reference, so it looks like a Major Travel reference number.

Most travel agents are fully staffed today, so no harm in giving them a call now if you don't want to wait. Their geographic number is 0207 3931000.

Major travel have been around for donkeys years-often cheap-sometimes a bit careless with details so triple check all the details and you'll be fine.

We have booked several flights to Thailand in the past with Major Travel- always seem to be the cheapest when we book. Never had any problems and tickets are always sent by email well before we travel.

Likewise - used them a few years ago for ticket to JNB - no problems.

I almost booked with them a week ago. They were showing a price of £321pp and it was still this price when I went through the various screens. Only once I had entered the passenger details did the price change to £403. They were still the cheapest, but I wouldn't book with them on principle as I don't like sharp practise.

Thankyou to all the contributors, I certainly feel more confident that Major Travel are indeed a reputable company. Hopefully I will receive a confirmation email from them tomorrow. If not, I will phone them on the number advised by dmg24.
