IE8 Upgrade Email Problems

Two laptops, running AVG 8.5.339, both upgraded to IE8 yesterday 24-05-09.
One works fine, other will not send emails from links on comp pages. Error messages .... unable to open Windows mail.... currently being used by another program... and MSOE.DLL could not be initialized.
Security Centre on problem machine shows "all green" whereas working machine shows Malware protection (virus) as "yellow". This is monitored by AVG. Is this the problem or is it something else ?
