Some VCD burning help for my husband required

(Posted on behalf of my OH)

Hi

Hope you tecchies can sort me out. I have masses of sports clips stored on my PC in different formats. I have in the past been able to save them as VCDs using my CDRW and Nero software - and then play them on our DVD player. (I dont have a DVD-RW so VCD is the only option -and preferred option)

But I also have clips stored as 'Movie Clip' and 'Video Clip' type formats not MPEG - and cannot save them as VCDs. I even removed Nero and tried some 'trial software' to burn it - without any joy.

What do I need to do with these clips-do I have to change their format (eg to .avi/mpeg??? If thats the case, HOW (what software etc). And are there any good/free VCD burning utilities available.

Many thanks for your time.

  • I think you'll need to convert them first (unless Nero does this as an all-in-one, but even then it's usually better to do it as a separate process). VCDs are mpeg1 and SVCDs are mpeg2.
To be honest I don't know much about VCDs (but I do know a lot about DVDs) but you will find lots of good info here -> http://www.videohelp.com/guides
  • Hey tired one...I do a lot of burning as VCD (as I haven't yet shelled out for a DVD burner)...

The tool that works the best for most conversions is called TMPGEnc, which is completely free and can be downloaded from http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html Hopefully it speaks for itself - tell it what file goes in, tweak the audio and video if needs be, and then it churns it out as a MPG suitable for Nero to burn to VCD.

PM me if you need any help with it, but as the other poster has mentioned, videohelp.com should have a guide or two to get you through it - I particularly recommend this one: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/84759.php

I agree with that. Used the TMPGEnc for ages. It's free to convert to MPEG1.

OK - my OH will no doubt read these replies and take it from there.
