As long as there's no overcrowding I don't see that the local authority would have any say in the matter. Obviously she won't be able to claim the single-person's 25% discount on the Council Tax and you won't have any rights as you're not on the agreement but you can be if you marry at some point in the future.

What does it say in your GF's tenancy agreement say?? If, for example, it says no lodgers or guests, even if they aren't paying then that tells you.

Alternatively if it says "You can have your Boyfriend, his kids, Grannie and 7 dogs to live with you" that tells you something else...

You say she has "recently got" her flat - she's probably in an "Introductory Tenancy" period and quite likely under more controls than usual - eg no tenants.

Do post what it says, even if it says nothing on having other people in the property.

NB Just because "other people do it" doesn't mean that a council will not take action against your GF..

You might want to read this, in particular the stuff about Southwark council recovering 100 properties per year from illegal sub-letts...

    Cheers!

    Lodger

I suppose asking you to post what the council said when GF asked them is too b****in' obvious??

Is she on benefits? If she is they will be affected if you move in.

Having a boyfriend move in is not subletting. Even humble Local Authority tenants have the right to a personal life. Unless the gf is claiming benefits it's nobody's business but their own.
  • It says in the first post they both work full time.
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Most Local Authority tenancy agreements allow a lodger as long as there's no overcrowding although they might be a bit ticked off if your gf got the property on the basis that she's a one-parent family but I doubt they'd be able to do anything about it if they found out anyway
