  • Just a quick point for anyone having any problems with the Times links above. I use FireFox as my default browser and it wouldn't let me register for the student rate. However, if you use IE, it works no problem at all.

  • I have never read the Gaurdian before, does it have cartoons and horoscopes?

    :)

It has a reputation for its spelling being as good as yours!

Had some very mixed results with newspaper vouchers.

The best deal has to be from the Sun. They always send me 2 weeks free Sun vouchers when applied for.

The Daily Mirror only send out one weeks discount vouchers when I sent in some Guardian vouchers. The reply was addressed ' Dear Student '. My brother sent one weeks Sun vouchers and got the same.

Did not receive anything from the FT or the Times after applying online.

I recently received a Telegraph leaflet from a local newsagent offering one weeks free Telegraph followed by four weeks at half price. They were trying to push home delivery but I don't think it's compulsory. The leaflet which I sent off had a unique code but you can also apply by ringing them on 0800 316 3001 and ask about the Telegraph Home Delivery Offer.

I would be interested to hear of other experiences trying to get free papers.

I once had a Telegraph voucher refused. The newsagent said they didn't take any vouchers as it took too long for the money to come through. They must lose the extra business that people with vouchers also bring in. I also caught one newsagent cutting vouchers out of magazines before they returned them unsold and was told it was an extra source of income.

Just rang the Telegraph home delivery service number. Apparently they give a card to newsagents which you have to collect before you can use the service. Not all newsagents have this, but they can call their supplier if they don't have one.

    Thanks for that Archilles.
I was on holiday when that all happened and when I got back you can only look at last 500 posts so missed all that.
Its a shame as he really did start off some good threads.
Its never really been the same since then.

Why would anyone want to read the Sun anyway? ???

As a genuine student I can print off the Guardian vouchers and buy the paper for 20p without having to lie in order to get a discount.

The promotion is not intended to be abused by people who are not eligible to receive the vouchers - perhaps the name student discount vouchers is a clue that they're only for genuine students?
