As you posted on a public forum in a manner that IMO intended to deceive, you may want to reconsider before calling others to book on the grounds of what may or may not be decent. My comments were clearly addressed to the other thread readers, who may not have been aware that you were directing them to websites/companies in which you may have a financial interest. The background from the link was relevant to that, refers to your business life, rather than your personal life, & highlights information that you willingly put out via other articles.

So, if im reading this right, if i rented a room out and generate more than the rent a room freshhold, i could declare it as rental income and claim expenses that i am unable to on the rent a room scheme?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I know it's illegal, but my advice would be to keep quiet. i very much doubt anyone will tell the taxman if you don't.
