Preston/Manchester to London

Hi,

Looking for cheap train tickets from either Preston or Manchester to London Euston on 29th June. Got to get there early morning. Cheapest I could find was £28 from Manchester and £31.50 from Preston.

Any tips on whether I could get this down a little further would be much appreciated. Time and date unfortunately not flexible.

Don't know if this will be of any help, but if you don't mind going by coach you could try Megabus.com

04:00 Depart Manchester, Shudehill Interchange - Arrive London, Victoria Coach Station 08:30 £3.50

I doubt if you'll get it any cheaper than that - you get a lot of business travellers on the Manchester -Euston run early on a Monday morning, so they don't tend to offer the really cheap fares.

You probably wouldn't be that much quicker/cheaper flying. Jet2 are one of the few that do that route but you'll pay more in tax than the cost of the train I would have thought.

Also Manchester Airport is on the south side so if you are coming from Preston way its going to take you a while to get there, and then from Heathrow (or whichever) back to central London is also going to take time.

    Thanks all.

Going to book it from Mancs pretty soon. How long can I hold out before booking the Virgin Advance fare? Is it two weeks prior to the date I'm due to go or am I better getting it booked ASAP?

Just holding out in the hope that the mobitix tickets come back!

That fare will go when all the tickets at that price have sold. it could be tonight, it could be two weeks from now. I know I wouldn't hang around at that price at peak times.
