Hi all - sorry I've checked to see if there is a similar thread already and couldn't find one.
My dell is about 6 months old and I've been having problems when I log on. I get onto google ok and am able to search for whatever site I want to but then it freezes. The only way I'm able to turn it off is by removing the battery (at least I think it's the battery!) and putting it back in again.
When it happened again today I chose start up repair. Diagnosis and repair details said:
"Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.
Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: failed, Error Code 0x490"
Can anyone advise me what this means please?
Many thanks in anticipation.
Regards

Hi - sorry I don't want to appear rude by I really don't understand what you're telling me to do.
"try setting bios back to its default settings, and set the cd or dvd drive you are installing vista from to boot up first. tahts wot ive done and its sorted out all those probs above.

I'm not trying to install vista - did I say I was or did the feedback I had described say I was?
Sorry but I'm completely confused now - help please!

Do you have any data/programs you need?
Does safe mode work?0 -
I'm starting to think I'm thick! I'm afraid I don't know what you mean either daily! Protected mode is on - is that what you mean?

Post 2 made little sense to me too, half expected a spam follow up post.
Safe mode is activated by hitting F8 shortly after boot.
The question about data was referring to the option of setting it back to factory settings (which would fix the problem, but wipe your data and any programs you've installed since delivery)0 -
