Hi,
Has anybody any experience of using the free to download programme at https://www.proffittcenter.org
I run a retail shop but we are having massive headaches as we are currently using MYOB accounts package as sold to us by the nice guys (not!!) at PC world after spending all our hard earned money on this and the technical backup that goes with it MYOB have now written to us to say they are withdrawing from the market if we would like we can buy another programme which converts it to something else so we can keep using it and pay another company for their technical suport!!!
It is not an option to buy the new package as we are now totally skint, but the other problems we are having is that MYOB does not have enough internal memory in the programme to cope with the volume of sales we have and it can take 15 - 20 minutes to input a sale which is not very good when you have a customer waiting for their receipt.
Also I think it would be easier if my staff were scanning barcodes as their is less chance of error as at the moment they look up the items code on the system and if they don`t know what they are looking for it can be a costly mistake.
Proffittcenter.org is a free to download programme and I thought I could use this to convert our PC to read barcodes and then I could just buy a barcode scanner to plug into it - what do you guys think? The only problem I can see with it is that the maximum total sale is £1500 most of our sales are below this and any that are below this are telephone orders which we could split into two sales.
Your help would be much appreciated as this is really holding us back at the mo and I have very little technical expertise so would value somebody who knows what they are talking about to have a look or alternatively anybody who is using this type of system giving their opinion.
Thanks guys.

The barcode scanner is basically like a keyboard: it inputs a certain value once something is done, in this case scanning a barcode will enter the number of the barcode into the system, so you don't really need a program to 'convert' what the scanner reads, but I do understand where you are coming from.
As i'm sure your well aware, EPOS software doesn't come cheap. The 'Proffit Centre' one you linked to seems almost too good to be true, so if you do download it, I recommend you do all payments externally i.e. not using any in-built payments system in the software, to help prevent yourself from becoming victim to any kind of scam linked with the software. Although, saying this, quite alot of people use this software, so it may well be worth downloading it just to see if it lives up to how it is described.
One of the only other alternatives, imo, would be for you to build a database using Access which you could manipulate to do what you want it to do, but this will take an awful lot of time to make and does require quite a lot of skill in IT.
Anyway, whatever you do, I wish you lots of luck. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
