Cooker Hood thingy just gone bang!!

Hi

Just turned on my cooker hood/extractor fan thingy, the light flickered for a few moments then went bang.

I removed the bulb and it is all black on the outside of the bulb. Nothing works now. All dead.

Do you think it has fused or worse.

Any thoughts because I really do not know where to begin.

Are you sure? Nothing at all?
Would you like to refine that statement a bit?

I suspect that a fuse has blown, or a circuit breaker has tripped. Replace the bulb and repair the fuse or reset the CB.

    Hi, thanks for replying.

My cooker head has a switch for the light and then three switches for the fan.

The light switch obviously does not work as I removed the bulb and you can see it is blown inside, also the outside is black. None of the fan switches work at all.

Sorry to have no clue at all, but where would the fuse be and where would the circuit breaker be.

When you say the outside is black, do you mean the outside of the switch or the casing that holds the bulb?

Can you please check to see if the power sockets (your microwave etc) still work and can you check if the oven works and report back please?

    Hi

The bulb itself is back on the outside and so is the casing that the bulb goes into.

Everything else in the kitchen is working fine. The oven is fine - this is on the opposite side of the kitchen. The hob which is beneath the cooker hood is working fine.

I can assume from this that nothing has blown in your consumer unit, and that the fuse has blown elsewhere. Is there one of these nearlby? MARBO-marbo-13a-dp-sw-fcu-neon.jpg

No. There seems to be lots of wires coming out the top of it onto my cupboard above. Some of the wires are probably coming from the hob beneath. I also have lots of lights built into cupboards etc. One of the main wires is wired into a sort of white terminal and then this is wired to a normal plug.

OMG I probably need an electrican do you think? All the lights are working and so is the hob.

you may not need an electrician if its just a fuse somewhere (which it sounds like as the whole hood is dead). Do you have any friends/neighbours that have the basics on electrics?

    Not really.

Do you think the fuse is in the hood itself.

Possibly. Might be worth giving the manufacturer a call tomorrow and asking them if its internally fused.
