Help setting up a webpage

Options
Hi
With horrific debts and not a spare bean really, we are looking to start an online business which I hope will provide me with a second income(can't go into it but its about a product used in the US but not much over here yet and I want to promote myself as the sole distributor in the UK).

But...I am not so techie when it comes to setting up a web page. I have done some searching on here and even the lingo is confusing.

So to set up a web page I need to register a domain name e.g. webpage.co.uk and I need a host is that right? Is web page design expensive or can I do that? (I'm pretty good on powerpoint etc and can make good presentations but not sure if this will help)

Can anyone please advise me on the cheapest but most effective way to do this so I can get on with google, yahoo etc for the most hits....I need cheapy cheap!

Thanks in advance
Winnie

    Hi,

Have a look at www.123-reg.co.uk - they are fairly cheap .... you don't need to be a techie to setup a website through them .... fairly simple ....

I have my own website that I set up via them .... as it is my company one, I cann't tell you name on here .... but if you PM me & can send you link .... not finished, but took about 30 minutes to do ....

    Hi,

You will need 3 things in order to have a working website:

    • Domain name (web address) that will direct users to the website
    • Web hosting (physical online storage for your website pages, text + graphics)
    • Website files (consisting of usually "HTML" files, which stands for HyperText Markup Language, a posh way of saying "internet webpage"
Powerpoint wont really be much use here I am afraid - you will need to use a program such as Microsoft FrontPage in order to make your website. Some webhosting companies use online software so you can make a basic website, but these usually look quite tacky

If you need any help, PM me. I'm a freelance web designer so if I can help, I'd be glad to

Thanks guys I have pm'd you both.

Just a quickie, with 123.reg can you just buy the names to start with then add on the extras like emails or do you need to do it all upfront?

    Thanks

We have recently set up a webpage and I originally tried to do it myself but like you have no technical knowledge and a year later still nothing was even near to completion I tried https://www.scriptlance.com after it was recommended by somebody on here and I cannot recommend it enough have a look it could save you a lot of time and effort but also lost revenue my website was up and running in 40 days.
