Old jute shopping bags?

I hope I have the right board.
I have a couple of Sainsburys jute shoppers that now have holes in the bottoms from what must be getting on for 3 years use.
Has anyone actually composted one of the jute bags for life yet? If so, how did you do it? Did you chuck them in the compost bin as they are, cut them up, or what? And did they break down well?
A thought has just hit me that maybe they could, at least in part, become a biodegradeable planter for seedlings etc if I cut the handles and top half of bag off (a bit like using card tubes for seedlings).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

We use hessian to line out hanging baskets -looks a bit nicer I think than some of the liners on sale......just my opinion.
Maybe you could do similar with jute -you might have to cut them up and overlap the bigger pieces your left with - just could work........hthMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Thank you both - I do have some seed potatoes chitting right now, so I might give the spud bag idea a go - would save my back a bit, and anything that does that is good
I only have one hanging basket at the moment (got strawberries in - bit of an anti-pest experiment), but using them as liners also sounds like a good idea for next time I set one up.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
