Don't know if anyone knows the answer to this but if someone's name is on the logbook of a vehicle, does that make them the legal owner of the car?

TIA

I believe the log book only shows the registered keeper, not the legal owner. For example, if you have a car on a Hire Purchase agreement, legally the car belogs to the finance company but your name will be on the log book. HTH!

    No it doesn't.

Logbook states "The Registered Keeper is not necessarily the legal owner" (in Section 5)

Big companies for instance show a Keeper on the log book.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

It's about time the DVLA started recording vehicle ownership as well as keepership, just as Land Registry places a 'charge' on a land title to indicate there is a mortgage on it, etc..

Actually, scrub that idea.. It's probably best that DVLA doesn't take on any more work than is absolutely essential. Even the simplest bureaucratic tasks are beyond them.
