I love Microsoft's comment:While Windows Firewall doesn't provide absolute protection against malicious hackers, it provides strong protection in most scenarios and was included in SP2 to provide a level of protection well beyond the common pre-SP2 configuration for most users - no personal firewall at all,' said the company in a statement.
which translates as:'The first firewall we gave you was no use whatsoever but the one we have given you now is merely crap,' said the company in a statement

This 'unwanted feature' has been reportedly fixed with the latest Microsoft update.

The advice would be to download the latest update from Microsoft (especially if you rely on the SP2 firewall)."...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0 -
Simple answer to this, dont rely on XP firewall. Download a standalone firewall0

Download a free one, Zone Alarm, anything, just don't rely on Micros**t.
