The Double Debt Attack by Double Trouble

  • Been thinking dangerous I know :D

Reading some old diaries on here and mortgage free wannabe people I dont know but ones who appear to have something in common with me large debts or large mortgages recurrent theme how hard it is to sustain the debt busting for any length of time, unrealistic targets, feeling guilt when they slip up and some just disappearing.

Made me realise that could be me we have a long way to go and once I start on the mortgage in Dec the amount of debt in my sig is going to be enormous - have set a debt free date of 5/10/15 which is probably unrealistic - we need to live as well as 2 kids to get through uni - 2 little ones growing up want them to have opportunities and experiences - dont intend going 18 months without a break again- so in reality 6 years is not going to do it probably more like 10- can we do it dont really have any choice getting older mostly IO mortgage.

What can I do? Really go for it at the mo when enthusiasm is high and accept there will be fallow periods when the dfd will slip and try not to feel guilty about it. Keep posting I noticed people who were really struggling posted less and then often disappeared.

Take support from other peoples success "you know who you are":T

Oh well end of holiday musings back to debt reality soon;)

I guess you have to do what can be done at the time just realising that life gets in the way sometimes...IE:Some months for us are really expensive or we need something unexpectedly but as long as we do our best in between then we will get there. It is a long drawn out thing though this debtbusting lark.

It is hard work to keep the momentum going, and I certainly know that I have some really low points when I just feel as though I am going nowhere, whereas I do know the reality of how well I am doing, if that makes sense.

Those periods last a few days, and are horrid, and when they happen I am a very horrid person who is not supportive or nice or anything - I am quite bitter about the situation we are in, and jealous of anyone else around me.......

But, over the years, I have learned to recognise when they occur - they generally happen when I enter then next £10000, so for example, when I went from the £60ks into the 50ks, then when I went into the 40ks etc.....I don't know why - perhaps I get all excited about moving into the next bracket, with the congrats that go with that.......then I have the "but I've still got a bloody long way to go, I'm tired, I'm skint, and I want a new pair of jeans because it is 6 years since I last bought any, life's not bloody fair" feelings.

So, I suppose it is a case of accepting that the progress is sometimes slow, sometimes non-existant, and sometimes the feelings we have change from motivated to downright !!!!ed off.....but that if we work through those days, the motivation and the energy will return, and we will get there.

  • Thanks Hypno and Taxi your stories have been an inspiration and I notice people dont seem to disappear off your threads so it is obviously not only me that thinks so :T

    Just found my first post

    Dear Hypno

Just popping in to say hi for the first time in your diary. I have just finished reading part 1 you definitely should write a book you know how to keep readers wanting more ending on several cliffhangers when do you start work? will you make the ski fund payment? will you clean the house for Christmas? etc. etc. no don't tell me I am about to search for part 2.:D

Seriously though you are a real inspiration you have already get a few more ideas buzzing in my brain and as you can see from my sig I have quite a bit to clear and if I was being totally honest I would have to add a family loan too:eek: Can't do anything yet though got to read the rest of the diary only taken 3 days so far:rotfl::rotfl:

Will be back after part 2 is it as long as part 1?

Realise it took me a long time to post joined in September this is 5th November and that I even mentioned that loan in my first post and then conveniently forgot it until quite recently:D

You have paid loads off already in a year DT which is absolutely excellent.
Your total in the pay off 40k by christmas is outstanding as well.
You should feelproud of what you've achieved so far and also bear in mind that we are in a recession as well!!!....just keeping going can be hard with all the uncertainty about.

I think that one thing with [STRIKE]taxi and myself[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]me and taxi,[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]taxi and I[/STRIKE] us is that we both have diaries that we post in every day, or almost every day.....even when we feel we have nothing "moneysaving" to report. I mean, since when did ironing or going to the football have anything to do with moneysaving? (apart from the fact that NOT doing the ironing saves loads of electricity, thereby keeping my bills down).....

I don't post because I think others are remotely interested in the size of my ironing pile, or the size of my latest payment to egg, but because it keeps me focused on the bigger picture.

Some people only update their diaries once every few weeks or every few months.......which may work well for them, but for me I know that I would be more likely to slip off the rails if I didn't "report in" here every day.

I am very glad to hear it (even have tears in my eyes soppy cow:o) because I'm not going anywhere either. Mixed feelings about the years flying by - not getting any younger you know even older than Shaun :rotfl: - but young in heart.

I promise to post but it won't be about ironing don't do any :rotfl:had a dream a couple of nights ago about going to uni again probably because of DS and telling someone that the new iron I had was my first since last time I went to Uni not far from the truth only recently replaced my uni iron and that one my sister bought me in 1977 should see me out I think
