Refund of postage?

I bought a Playstation 2 from a seller on Ebay and it doesn't play discs that I know work on other consoles. I contacted the buyer who said he was sorry to hear that and offered me a replacement (turns out to be a business rather than private seller). I replied by asking if he would pay the postage and got no response at all.

I had already started a Paypal dispute so I escalated that and was told to send it back by recorded delivery. I've done that but it cost me £8.97 for the privilege. Can I get a refund for the postage?

It is good business practice to refund return postage on faulty items but some sellers dont. Have a look at their returns policy or T&C's. You may have anoyed them by opening a dispute but if you got no response it was all you could do.

Unless stated in their Ts and Cs you should by law not be out of pocket on returns- however, actually getting that refund is another matter as paypal won't/can't help.

To be honest I'll be content to get some of my money back but it's the damn cheek of him ignoring me and me having to be out of pocket.
