Moving out, but TalkTalk can't disconnect for a couple weeks

Hi,
My friend is moving into a new flat, and not taking her TalkTalk connection with her. But the TalkTalk people say they can't disconnect her old phone line, for a couple of weeks (or 10-14 days or something).

The worry is that any new tenant in her old flat could just plug a phone into the socket and make phone calls on her account, until the time that it's disconnected.

Is there any way to avoid this scenario?

Many thanks

Hi, They Should be able to disconnect before that. I work for a phone company and normally it can be done within 48 hours or if the new tennants are moving in before line has ceased Talk Talk can apply an all call bar to stop anyone using the phone. This only applies if she gets her line rental and calls with them. I would get her to call them back to check this. Hope this info helps.

Why not get some wire cutters and cut the wire in several places?

How would you like it if you moved in to a house and instead of just ringing to activate the line you had to get someone out to fix it :/
  • You can put a block on your phone to disallow outgoing calls (I think). All she needs to tell them that she is moving out and if they don't disconnect it any calls that are made she won't be liable for it.

    Hi Potatan,

If your friend has an LLU service then this takes 10-14 days to cease. If its a standard line rental service then this takes 48 hours to cancel. We can place an outbound call bar on the account if your friend is on LLU which will prevent the service being used until the account is fully disconnected. If your friend can register at www.talktalkmembers.com/forums I'll be able to get the barring sorted for them.

    Cheers
