Arrghh, what have I done to my internet connection??!!!

Right gettin' frustrated here.

Got one of the cheap Dell laptops which arrived today. I've got NTL broadband with a standalone modem. I unplugged the ethernet connection from my pc and plugged it into the laptop to see if I could get a connection to the internet set up. I couldn't get it to work. So I plugged the ethernet connection back into the pc and now my internet is playing up in a weird way. Sometimes it connects to certain sites, sometimes it doesn't. Eg. it can't connect to google.co.uk but can connect to google.com, then I try again a few minutes later and the situation is reversed. Can't get into BBC.co.uk now but could a few minutes ago, etc. I get different messages such as 'Cannot find server or DNS error' or in the address bar something along the lines of "http://auto.search.msn.com/response.asp?M....(website search here). I'm sure I had no msn message ever before in thr address bar when it failed to connect to a site. Have I damaged my internet connection/modem configuration?

Help please!

Edit: done a virus check/spybot check also add that some sites I can't get into at all, eg dell.co.uk some I can always get into eg. this site, fortunately!

Its not you its the broadband connection at the moment, if you check out other threads you will see lots of us are having the same problem with our connections.

I keep this as a favourite to check when i suspect NTL are doing work.

I hope it is just a coincidence. I couldn't figure out why I could only get a few websites on the Dell. I thought it was settings on the lappy. It probably worked after all! I'll see if it's the same tomorrow.

I think it will be ok, but keep the page that i posted before and check the status again tomorrow. What you are describing is the same as what is happening to alot of us, so hopefully once Ntl have completed their work you should see full service.
