Bit of a sweeping statement - a lot of people like to buy things and take them home with them, there and then :-)
How many DVDs do you reckon you have, to the nearest hundred?
I have bought 15-20 boxed sets dvd (entire series etc) from overseas and over 100 dvds never paid duty / tax etc. I have been stung with import duty on overseas purchases but never dvds or games etc.
I would not buy a dvd from a high street retailer unless the price was comparable with those available online.0 -
I can certainly see the logic of what you're saying, Scumgrinder, and there are certainly some cracking online prices for boxed sets
That doesn't mean that anyone who buys a DVD on the high street is nuts, though

I have hundreds of dvds and boxsets and most of them I buy from high-street stores. This is because the versions you buy on the Internet on sites such as Play or CD-WOW are different versions and so have some scenes edited, different covers.
It all depends on how big you are into your films/dvds! :-/0 -
I fogot to add that any of the boxsets or dvds that I have bought could have been bought on the Internet for half what I paid for!

Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic was released in the US at least a month before it was released in Europe, so I ordered it from a US company
When it came into the UK I was charged import duty and VAT, and they based the duty not just on the cost of the game (which was around £18) but on the total cost including freight charges. They then charged VAT at 17.5% of game price + freight charges + duty
So although it ended up costing slightly more than the UK release price, I had it to play with a month before other people in the UK had it, and that was a price I was willing to pay
That's my only experience to date of ordering online goods from abroadThanks to all who post constructively.
