Car written off, how long does it take for everything to go through?

a flat bed lorry reversed into my car on Thursday and the other driver admitted liabilty (like it could have been any other way:rolleyes:). I phoned my insurance and they said the car would be a write off (without even seeing it) and sent the salvage people to pick it up.

How long would I expect to wait before I get an offer from the insurance company and get the money?? We have already started looking round for a new car but obviously can't make any decisions until we find out how much we will get for our old one.

Thanks

It's purely down to the competence (or lack thereof) of your insurance company now. I'd say a week as an absolute minimum though, if you have a good insurer.

    Who are you with?

what car was it, mileage condition etc

look at autotrader, local ads for similar condition models of your car to get a rough idea of a value

I'm with Yes insurance, who are unwritten by prudential. They seem quite quick so far.

Car was a 2003 vauxhall Zafira club with 55,000 miles on the clock. Was in good condition but obviously wasn't spotless inside as I have 2 kids!!! I've had a look at Autotrader and looks like it worth anything between 3500 and 4500 in this area (hampshire)

My car got written off in Febuary, Not my fault, i wasnt even the car at the time, i had a nightmare from start to finish.

The other person was insured with HSBC, it took 11 weeks to sort out, they dragged their feet from start to finish. I couldn't understand why because they was paying for a hire car.

The Other person admitted full liability. It usually is quicker though .

    good luck

you should have a hire vehicle if you need one - it could take 2/3 weeks to pay out

    Thanks for the replies!

The bloke has admitted full liability and it was a company vehical, so i'm hoping this might make things a bit quicker than if it was a private car:undecided

Insurance got me a hire car that afternoon, unfornatly its a 2 door Astra sports Hatchback and i'm pregnant with 2 kids so not the most practical thing:rolleyes:!!

Oh well i'm off on hols on friday so leaving DH to deal with it all!!!

if your claiming on your own insurance then it will take about 2/3 weeks, however if your going direct/throught a non fault accident management dealy than it takes a while it took 11 weeks for my non fault accident 2 years ago

My 2002 Club Zafira was written off in Dec 2007. V similar to yours with 57k miles and 1 child!! I got £4500 after an argument and some help from here! Took 1 month to get the money in my account.

Possibly stating the obvious, but you really ought to get onto your insurance and ask that they provide you with a more suitable vehicle.

Once again, this is why I prefer to go through an accident management company rather than through my own insurance when it's a non fault accident.

Lum I think the Astra Sports is a credit hire vehicle provided by an Accident Management Company.
