The Usual - Money back from ex through small claims

Appreciate this is not at all unusual but wondering if any of you had any experience of the small claims court.
Money transferred by BACS in December to help our with her rent with promise to pay back eventually. I have chased via e-mail and phone but not reply. 6 months gone and I send her a threat of court action. Week later and I get a reply saying "And what do I owe you? What about all the stuff you threw out etc...I owe you nothing" . I know this isn't a legal website but is there any inference of contract by inplication that there is something owed. I have politely written back offering £50 to cover these items which I think is more than generous and allowing her to pay in installments.
I think the view is mixed but dont want to go to small claims and be humiliated in front of her. She really is quite a nasty person as I found out only too late.
Abort mission now or is there a legal case?

How much are you talking about here?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Do you have any proof that the transfer was not a gift, or repayment for monies that you could owe her?Gone ... or have I?0
