My turn to vent some anger...

Don't expect any replies but its good to get things off your chest no?

I went round my local estate agents today. Got a list of all the properties in my area and price range. I wanted to view about five or so. I have just come of the phone and all but one are sold.

Why do they give me details, if they have been sold. And I dont mean under offer, but actually Sold. Surely they knew this before?

Maybe I am paranoid after last night programme...I did actually make the mistake of telling an agent I had seen one of the houses late last year when I was looking, and woulld maybe like another look round. Turns out this is the only one still available! Coincidence?

Ok. Thanks

Play the EA at his own game, tell him other agents have properties that you find more appealing so you won't bother him again.

You mean you have been shown around houses where contracts have been exchanged? Seems pretty pointless to me.

If contracts have not been exchanged then the houses are not sold, but under offer. In that case I suggest you put in a higher bid on one of them, get them to drop out of their previous deal and accept your offer, then wait three weeks without doing anything before you drop out.

That will wind up the estate agent no end.... ;)

That is the most underhand thing you could suggest you are not getting back at the estate agent just getting the hopes up of the person selling. Selling a house is a very stressful time without a wind-up merchant pulling tricks like that.

Not to mention that if the vendors have a shred of dignity, they wouldn't gazump their current buyers. If they do, they deserve whatever is coming to them!

This will (hopefully) raise a smile for you.. ;)

A mate of mine is looking for a house atm. Last Saturday morning he got one of those "package to be picked up at the post office" cards, there was a cost involved of £1.02 so it had to be picked up by hand.

He was expecting a package, so assumed it was this.

Off he trotted to the PO. When he gets there it's a letter (not what he was expecting) so he paid the charge. £0.02 for the postage paid shortage (it was 19p stamp not 21p!!) and £1.00 in admin fees.

He leaves the PO, eager to open his letter to see what he has got - it's only property info on ONE house from an EA....

... that had already been sent to him twice by the same EA!!! :)

    Very amusing :rotfl:

Thing is people believe what they see on the telly. EAs have never really had a good name anyway. This programme just reassures peoples beliefs.

Why then don't people advertise themselves. I have sold many properties this way and cut out the robbin b...stards

New commonwealth games event - jumping to conclusions.

The OP did NOT say he was shown around houses already sold. He just said the details were still in the window, and he was told they were sold when he enquired. The houses could actually have just been sold, and the EA hasn't got round to removing the posters from his window. And in this context, "sold" means "subject to contract". In fact the EA should be given a pat on the back for not trying to get the OP to gazump.

Many estate agents, in my experience, do this. It makes them look busier than they actually are.

You know I think your right. About 75% of the properties on one of my local EA site are sold or under offer. Mind you at least they tell you straight off.....
