Aww dont tell me this! Had to go for a medical last week for my ESA claim. And it's a MH thing!! The 'doctor' just sat there grunting at me the whole interview so I have no idea what to expect back. And because he was running late I've had to have another appointment this thursday for the work related part of the interview. That didnt exactly help my symptoms considering how wound up I was about going in the first place, then having to go again just because the doctor spent too lon eating his lunch!!!

Hi mealone i will let you know when i hear from the tribunral.
As i am one of the ones MH issues. Just because i look alright on the out side it is in my head that is not right . No one can see what goes on when this happens But im going to fight this just to make a point fior ppl with MH issues . Today as you can see i am having a positive day
But tomorrow i may be not

Just because a problem isnt obvious dosnt mean it dosnt matter, be it ME, CRPS or mental health issues IMHO.

Thank you for replying cozza and I hope things go ok at your tribunal.

    That is not correct.

Each descriptor in the physical and mental health sections can be awarded points, it is not just the highest score.

If someone scored points for different physical descriptors they will receive the points for EACH one not just the highest.

Sorry, yes, just found my training notes and checked - there are two tests each containing several activities, which in turn contain several sets of descriptors. You get the highest-scoring applicable descriptor per activity, not per test.

Eitherway, having checked the descriptors, I would have thought you'd get more than 6 points. Here's a full list of the activities and descriptors: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20080794_en_15#sch2

    HOW IT SCORES ....

Just looked this up now I was about to post the link myself, well done pepzofio.

Each activity (functional area) can have one of several descriptors which score 0,6,9 or 15 points. The scores for each activity then add together - so if you can't see to recognise someone at 5 metres (9) and you can't hear words in a noisy street (6) the scores for these two problems are combined to get the total for physical functions - and the target for Limted Capability for Work is 15.

Having checked myself against the scoring, I should have got 24-30 points - couldn't walk 100-200 metres without stopping to rest / severe discomfort; can't stand for 30 minutes without resting; can't bend/kneel to the floor or 1 foot off the ground; can't move items requiring both arms together.

What is strange is that none of these specific tests were conducted at the medical assessment, the assessor must has been making it up in his report.

So, I have sent in my appeal today.

Not sure if anyone has ever posted this but following a dss medical you are entitled to a copy of the doctors report. I recently asked for all past reports and received 5 of a possible 10 in the last 11 years.

I was shocked to see that one of these reports, done in 2003, concluded after a TEN MINUTE 'medical' that they found NO evidence to support to my claim ! Clearly someone at the benefits office did not entirely believe them as I have received IB continuously for 11 years now.

Off to another medical myself next friday so we shall see how That one goes.
