Audacity

When using Audacity to transfer from a tape recorder to the Audacity system, how can I get the sound to come out of the speakers so that I can monitor the conversation going into Audacity? I did this a few weeks ago but now, whilst it does record the info, I cannot hear the sound and therefore am having to keep stopping it so that I know what is going in and when it comes to the end.

I do click on the "monitor input" tab, and whilst that allows the red bar to move, it does not allow the sound to emit from the speakers like it did the other week.

It might be something to do with your soundcard settings, if it allows direct monitoring where the input is passed directly to the output. If not go to the preferences option on the edit menu and on the Audio I/O tab make sure the software playthrough box is ticked.

Perfect! that works, although it worked like that a few weeks ago, and I have not been into that edit menu!.
