Hi guys and girls, I'm *really* hoping you lot can help me out here. Basically, I have cable broadband and bought a digital cordless phone. The phone line now goes either very crackly or crystal clear. A friend said that the broadband is causing interference with the phone. I have plugged my 'normal' phone back in but the line is still either crackling or going crystal clear. The line was fine until I plugged the cordless phone in.
My friend said that you can buy a device that plugs into your phone socket to stop this from happening, but they couldn't remember what it is called. Does anyone here know and does anyone have one?

Hmm... You could try testing to see if it is your broadband interfiering- switch off the router, see how the phone is, then switch the router back on, test again and 'compare results'. At least then you will be able to confirm/isolate the cause or at least have some extra info if you need to phone virgin/manufacturer of cordless phones. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but another MSE should come along soon. Love the signature by the way!The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Hiya,
You have been helpful, would never have thought of turning off my modem!! I turned it off and the line was still crackly so I left it five minutes and made a phone call and the line was clear. I've just turned the modem back on and the line is crackly again so it must be something to do with that?0 -
A microfilter will remove the interference, but if you're on cable (i.e. Virgin Media), you won't need one, as they go down different holes (yes, that is the technical term
).
Maybe the line may need checkingSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I'm on Virgin and will phone them then, but I won't mention the part about the different holes... :rotfl: What I don't get is why it works with my modem off but not when it is on? If it's different holes, why would that have an affect?0

When a family member works at home in our house, we have a similar situation. We basically have 2 phone lines(one for family, one for her work), with 1 port for each by the computer. When I go on my laptop upstairs (and of course start using the wireless router) she almost immediately loses connection and has to re boot her modem. We can only assume BT cheaped out when they installed her phone line by tapping into the original house one? Very strange! The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
