Difference between Solid and Metallic paint?

As the title.

I'm looking to buy a new car (Aygo) and metallic will cost an extra £370.

Why does metallic cost more money, is it because there is a wider choice? Look better? Better re-sale value?

Forgive my ignorance, I just want to know if it's worth paying extra or not.

Cheers,
Claire

It's strange that when buying a car it costs extra though, as I'm sure when it comes to getting a car sprayed there's either no difference in cost or very little.

I'd always go for metallic for any car I don't use for rallying.

Whatever paint you go for, neglecting it is the only false economy. Polish once a year at least and don't let it sit under a layer of dried salt or much in winter.

For similar reasons to those which mean that nicer alloys, which might cost £1,500 to buy from the parts shop, add £1,500 to the price of the car when new - but they don't supply the normal alloys in a box (so its cheaper to buy a car with normal alloys and then buy the fancy alloys separately).

It's what people are willing to pay, although metallic paint does cost more money (but not that much).

It is just a ploy for extra profits from manufacturers, no way does metallic paint cost around £400 more than solid colours.

I prefer solid colours, they are much easier to repair if necessary.

( Try touching in a scuff on a metallic bumper ).

I've seen an Aygo in red (the only no extra cost colour) and it didn't look too bad.If you are financing then the blue or black options are only a few quid more per month and you get all the other special edition stuff.

Red cars look nice when they are all polished up IMHO.

True, but that is caused by the rubbish paint that Vauxhall use.
