I downloaded the program from the internet and it works and opens absolutely fine.
However when I save something, it's saving as a wordpad document. I can have word open and open it from there. But I'm trying to send my CV on to future employers and it's saving as the wrong file type, even when selecting to save as a Word document.
Also when trying to open the program when right clicking>open with and selecting word 2007 it says it's not a 'valid win32 program/app'
Any help please?

Somewhere I wasn't supposed to!
I know when I downloaded it it was as a .rar file, but used a convertor to open it.0 -

In that case, follow DCFC79's advice and try OpenOffice.0 -
I think thats what I actually downloaded. When I did it it came up as openoffice 2007 if thats of any help, then opened as a .rar file0

No it wasn't. It was from a torrent website.
