Or......it could also show that they have one for each day of the week and school uniforms all get washed on a Friday!

So that would be £180 for sweatshirts, I don't know any parents with that sort of money to waste but I will look out for them.

Edit Just thought familes with two children £360 or a friend with four children at the school £720 on sweatshirts, how horrific is that.

The Head has probably given up and earmarked you (quite rightly imo) as a difficult parent.

I assume you read and digested the school prospectus before you accepted the offer of a place at that school for your child? If so, I would expect the details and expectations of the uniform to have been spelled out in that document. By accepting the place you signed up to adhering to that standard, yet you blithely disregard it because it doesn't suit.

Remove your child, and seek a place at a school more akin with your needs, don't let the education of your child have a bearing on the decision, make it purely on the basis of whether the uniform policy fits your ethos.

It is a good way of making sure the best schools are only accessible to the better off. I thought schools had received advice about keeping uniform prices down so that less well off families weren't disadvantaged.

To you, anxious mom, poet123, and Zara33, I apologise, i did not realise we were having a no sense of humour day today (does it cost the same as a non uniform day?)

There is a marked difference between humour and sarcasm!!!

This poster clearly stated cost wasn't the factor in her decision to be "difficult".

But the cost is a factor for many, if those of us who can afford the high prices don't care about the people who can't it is rather harsh. My daughter had a friend at school who couldn't afford many of the things that were needed for school, more than once I have bought something in her size and passed it to her mother and explained it was something my daughter had grown out of without getting any wear from it. She was a lovely girl but her single mother with four other children was struggling, I'm not rich but hated to see the child singled out.

I am one of 'those childsmile people' and the reason we phone and check is that many people tick the wrong box by accident.

Do you ever phone people to see if they've ticked the "yes" box by accident? ;)

I googled for some info on this and found this link with relevant suggestions for how to find out if there is any help in your area with the cost of school unform:

    http://www.information-source.org/kids-school-uiniform-costs.htm

and I looked into the Family Welfare Association which is now called Family Action. On their website there is info on certain social groups where FA will help with grants for various clothing & household needs, including school uniform:

Of course cost is a factor for many, and in most schools some kind of arrangement can be made for those who are in this position, either by supplying a sweatshirt via lost property or selling on via the PTA secondhand uniform. I fully appreciate that and am really sympathetic to those issues.

Where my sympathy runs out is with those like the poster here who accepted a place knowing the uniform rules, and who can afford to comply, but then chose not to on the grounds of "principle".

Where are their principles in accepting a place in a school which has clearly spelled out uniform requirements, but then go on to make a fuss about complying?
