Some cards will offer 0% on both balance transfers and purchases: the Halifax/Bank of Scotland "One" card offer period is 9 months and there's 0.25% cashback on purchases. More here.

Why not - what have you got to lose? Some card issuers will offer you a deal to hold on to you.

Not sure whether Halifax One will extend a 0% deal but I've just had a letter off them telling me that after my 0% deal ends in January, any balances that I've already transferred to them will go to 3.9% instead of their standard rate.

Looks like they're trying to retain business. Not that I'll be taking them up on their offer.

May be a stupid question, but why not go for a 3.9% deal, considering that you'd still be on a plus net of tax, if you had the money in egg earning 5.5% (post tax 4.4%, unless you are a high rate tax payer) ???

It wouldn't be worth it on the miserly credit limit they gave me!
