Surely we don't have to pay this invoice?

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I thought I'd add the latest development to here...it'll help me keep track, at least!
We got a receipt for the payment we made for the tiler (the only part of the job not included in quote, but arranged by our 'main' man). With it was quite a nice letter confirming that they were also under the impression they were working for 'him' not us, and were rather surprised when 'he' insisted that they invoice us directly. They said they will now represent him with the invoice (which, incidently, was dated February), in the hope of receiving settlement. I was very happy to get this letter, as the exact wording of it, to me, confirms that this aint not our bill to settle, and that they were fully aware of this all along. Can't blame them though, it's the 'main' guy who has been BSing everyone by the looks of it.
I'm being really blind...is there a spellchecker here

HI there,
I know it's been MONTHS, but I'm looking for a bit more advice with this situation, if anyone's around?
Nothing more has happened since my last post. We've neither made, nor had contact or correspondence from anyone regarding our bathroom at all. We have since had the bathroom finished (at our expense), whilst we had great tradesmen on site, installing our new kitchen (also MEANT to have been supplied & fitted by the cowboy in the original saga).
Apparently this morning my hubby had a message left on his mobile voicemail for someone whose name we don't recognise (but from the com, saying that he was calling round to our house, with a plumber, at 9am this morning! Well, tough, as we are both out at work, so there would have been no one but the dogs to 'welcome' them!
What I'm wondering is...why on Earth, after 10 months with 0 contact, or response to our letter detailing all the problems, would they assume they can just appear on our doorstep? Do they really think that we left the bathroom without a useable shower, etc, for all that time, on the off chance they reappeared?! Having heard from an acquaintance who suffered similar 'customer service' from this lot, and who had the 'main man' threaten him in his home, regarding withheld payment,(and whose solicitor has started court proceedings), there is no way I am having ANYONE from that company in my home, for any reason. Soooo. What should I do / say if and when they inevitably appear....? ANY advice? HELP!
(PS, I'm full of the cold, and my head's a bit fuzzy, so if there's anythign important I've forgotten to tell you, please do ask! x)0 -
Soz, I tried to edit a typo above, but it wouldn't save the change for some reason.
Hubby had a message FROM someone whose name we don't recognise, not FOR someone. Sorry. Thanks again.0 -

Soz, I am just really hoping for a bit of guidance, before having to face this shower.:eek:
Thanks

Id write to them, recorded delivery of course.
Telling them that you no longer require their "services" as the work has been completed at your own cost & that you do not want any further contact from them.
Don't mention anything else at this point, if they come back at you claiming they want more money post it up here :beer:0 -
I would be tempted to write to them (the original company) saying that as you had no contact from them, you had to employ someone else to finish the bathroom. I would then send them a copy of the money paid to finish the job, and ask them to pay it. You could even threaten small claims court...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Isn't this just the sort of story that Watchdog's Rogue Traders could deal with?
I've only had dealings with them on one occasion - but it was successful. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I'd go to trading standards and ask them. Although, I personally wouldn't pay, I'd argue til the cows come home.0
