tumble dryers

I bought a beko tumble dryer in august 2008 and at first it seemed alright but at the end of april 2009 I started to have trouble with sheets and duvet covers. They started to roll into a ball and the sensor would say they were dry but when I unrolled them they were as wet inside as when I put the items in.I reported this to comet where I had bought the dryer and on 5th may an engineer came out and replaced the pcb.The dryer then worked for a while but 2weeks ago started to go wrong again..The engineer came today but he said there was nothing wrong with the dryer,it was a design fault and that no tumble dryer would dry sheets and duvet covers. The drum rotates over 38 times one way, stops, and then rotates backwards twice before going forward again 38 times.consequently the sheets do not get unrolled. Is this man having a laugh,I cannot remember ever having a problem in all the years of having a dryer. My question is how do I stand on this, have I a claim against comet or beko( the engineer said they are in turkey and even he cannot contact them) or do I have to only use a dryer for clothes and a clothes line for bedding.Any help would be gratefully received.

Firstly, if you said when you bought it that you would be using it for sheets and duvet covers, then it would have to be fit for that purpose (although arguing this will be nigh on impossible...)

Secondly, it seems that you've had no problems for 7 months, so it looks as though a fault has developed. A design fault that takes over half a year to come into effect? I think not!

Secondly, Beko may be a Turkish company, but they certainly have a UK arm. Try 0845 600 4906 (laundry service) or 0845 600 4911 (customer services)

I think the engineer who called is talkling a load of twaddle! I've had 2 tumble dryers that regularly have duvet covers and sheets shoved into them and they dry with no problem. Sounds like there is some kind of fault, especially with what you say about the drum rolling one way for ages and then the other way for a short time. Get back onto Comet and stand your ground!!

But why would you dry bedding in a tumble dryer?

I think Comet would get laughed out of court if their defense was "our tumble dryers don't do duvets"

Whilst this is correct with regard to the OP's statutory rights, it is often easier to resolve a problem by contacting the manufacturer directly.

I agree with contacting Beko directly, I had a dishwasher that failed after 13 months, contacted Beko and they arranged for someone to look at it. The part that was needed would have to be ordered, which is fair enough, But after 4 weeks the part still had not turned up, so Beko decided to replace the dishwasher, You can't ask for fairer that that IMO
