This article was in an Australian newspaper regarding rail travel in the UK.
I'm pretty sure that these tickets should be available to all though (not just OS visitors - please correct me if I am wrong.)

    than4, no need to be corrected, as all you say is true. Ranger and Rovers are available to all. They can work out great value if your holiday is based around using the railways alot, however, if your using the railway just to get to your resort or holiday area then 'cheap advance singles' work out cheaper, especially if bought well in advance.

    We'd like to travel by train down to Cornwall in August but am finding that train fares have gone up exorbitantly by comparison to same time last year (when cost us £28 return!)
    Anyone got any ideas beyond split ticketing and longer journeys, both of which I've investigated. Wait till nearer the time?
    Many thanks:confused:

    That gone an expensive route by the look of things, had a quick look for a random date in August and the cheapest I could find was £39 advance single. Tried splitting the journey at London, Birmingham and Bristol and that was more expensive, so try this;

    Stockport to Penzance Via Newport (south wales)

    Just use the 'via' box on the fare search engine hope it helps.
