Did anyone catch what the chancellor said on the budget a while ago about further education (which, by that, I presume he means university) fees? Satellite image and sound blurred so only caught "Further Education Fees".

Hopefully it will include universities because the current fees are unbelievable.wirm wrote:Taken from the BBC website - linkFurther education would be free of charge for the first time up to the age of 25, with adult learning grants to help with the cost of living
There was no mention of Uni's on the Education bit of that link.
The term "further education" seems a little vague as to what it actually means.0 -
I think further education means college courses and universities are called higher education.
:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

He actually said (as faras i can remeber) further education up to A level, would be free of charge to those under 25. So no, your not going to get your Uni free

I for one am glad that Uni fees are NOT free.
Why should I pay for someone else to have an education that in all likelyhood will mean that person will get a good job and good salary. I already pay enough for those that dont want to work without having to pay for those that do want to work too.0 -

That's not true though. A lot of students don't end up with a good job after uni anymore. There should be fees. In order to restrict the number of people at uni (as there are already too many doing pointless courses and dropping out because they obviously aren't up to university degrees).. but some courses such as medicine SHOULD be free despite the fact they'll get a well paid job.0 -
does this mean that alevel students will not longer have to pay for re sits do you think (im too old to be affected by it, but still have young rellies going through the system)know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

From what I understand I think it is if say someone left school at the age of 16 and went out to work, they could then go and do A-levels when they are 20, 21 etc. all the way up to 25. I think that's how it works.pavlovs_dog wrote:does this mean that alevel students will not longer have to pay for re sits do you think (im too old to be affected by it, but still have young rellies going through the system)
Might also be for re-sits but not sure.0
