Pal, I'm no expert, but I thought the reason why West govts had got away with printing so much money in recent times - without triggering inflation - was because the East was squirrelling it away for a rainy day.

Once the East starts competing for their own goods, then DVD players etc will start going through the roof - and with in inflation.

But I could be wrong on that.

You could be wrong.... but then again. Who knows?

Personally I think that interest rate rises in SE Asia, Japan and the USA are going to cause the £ to depreciate. That will push up inflation, and push up interest rates... At which point our Gordon will change the Bank of England's inflation targets. So still noone can predict what will happen... :(

My son is desperate to buy his own place but is hanging on and on and on , its even looking like he will move back home for a while , he just says the time is not right , he doesn't want to buy at the top of the market....

I hope the prices start to drop sooner rather than later or there will be 3 pensioners living here...

My sister works from head office for a well known Bank and the word out there is sit tight and dont buy as they reckon that the !!!!!! is going to fall out of the market ( not a lot of people know that )
  • But all the smart money has moved out of property 12 months ago you only have to read the financial columns of the popular press to realise that shares are back in vogue and will be for the forseable future so the point is if you want to invest then avoid property if you want a place to live long term get a house.

With all due respect, if the papers are saying "sell property" and "buy shares" then it is almost certainly time to sell shares and get into cash or bonds!

So how does that argument run, Bob? HIP will mean less properties going on sale because sellers won't spend 800 quid on them, so that will lower prices?

So if the oil companies produce less oil then petrol prices will be lower?

Makes perfect sense to moi!! ;)

But the main reason for posting is that I'm away for a week so there's a space on the sofa, more popcorn for nmaih and more vino for Doozer.

Keep it going guys, crash might have started by the time I'm back! _pale_

Edit: Oops. Sorry - I hope you have a nice time, wherever you're going.
