Get a 3 year next day warranty
I agree even their cheapest Vostros will cover more than your software requirements startin at 309 including shipping and VATSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -

op did say they want it to run fast
Yes def need it to run fast, when I have customer queries on anything, I need to be able to respond quickly, so don't need computer freezing or anything.
Also may need all programmes open at once along with internet running too.0 -

ok well what asininty suggested is useless
you definatly need a dual core processor with at least 2 ghz clock speed
at least 2gb of ram
and to be honest this is bare minimum on vista
you really need more

those are a few examples of what you can get with your budget and all of them will do what you want but dont buy anything from pc world currys or dixons. find what you want with similar specs to these and buy elsewhere

Well in that case go for the cheapest Duo Core laptop you can find with 3-4gb of ram. 500 is more than enough and though you dont like acer you'd get one very powerful computer for that:
http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_TravelMate_5730-6B4G25Mn_LX.TQH0Z.706/version.asp?PID=378
http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_6530G_Laptop_LX.AUS0X.142/version.asp?PID=434
But dell is probably the best bet, though you'd be hard pushed to get the above specs for 500.0 -

Only going off info I had at the time, not psychic.

I think they're overkill, spec wise. For starters, there's not really much point having 4 GB of RAM if you don't have a 64 bit OS. And you don't need a 512 MB graphics card, 5.1 surround sound audio output, or a Blu-Ray drive, for running office applications.
I would just get on Dell and spend £500.0 -

yeh some are, but i dont know what else the op\ wants but after looking at all the requirements for what they want to run they do need 2ghz and 3gb ram to run smoothly so the lower ones will still doBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Mine are def overkill for what the op needs but if they wanna spend 500 thats the sort of thing they could get, fact is for business use only a 300 quid comp would do.0
